Magical Thinking

I spend a large amount of time with Gracie talking about fairies and mermaids. Where do they live? What do they eat? Can we catch one? Can I be one?

Gracie has always had a great imagination. When she was all of two, she would dress up as Cinderella, request the cd of music from the movie and with Mommy playing all other parts, we would spend hours acting out the story. We recently spent a cold, but lovely afternoon looking for fairies in the backyard oak tree. I think that when the light hit the leaves and they twisted in the wind, I might actually have seen a fairy or two. It was chilly and time to go to school, so we left a bag of nuts under the tree to entice the fairies to visit. I love that "...anything is possible child, anything can be..."

I learned this week in my Growth and Development class that Gracie is in the age range that loses the ability to have magical thinking. Oh, how this saddens me.

Sweet violet...

Our newest family member as drawn by Gracie. Can you guess what she is from the picture?
